Yesterday i wrote a post on editing blogger post URL, and i was mentioned to write down the posts old URL before changing to a new one .Because, if the post you are decide to change the URL is an old one there is chance that the old URL may be indexed in search engine or in social website like Facebook or Twitter or GooglePlus. Because of that there is a chance to lose the visitor coming from those sites as the URL will give a does not exist error ! Here comes the importance of Custom Redirects.
Custom Redirects will help us to redirect the user from those old URL to the new URL. This post describe the steps to create a Custom Redirect in Blogger. Just follow the steps below.
Steps:
1. Login to your Blogger account.
2. In your blogs dashboard , GO to Settings > Search Preferences
3. Click on Custom Redirects > Edit
4. Now you will get something like below image
5. Now Add the your posts Old URL to From textfield and add the posts new URL to To textfield.
( Don't add the full URL just add the the red marked part of the URL in the example below )
eg. http://technoxide.blogspot.com/2012/07/redirect-blogger-post.html
6. Click Save and Save Changes.
Update: [ Custom Redirect Mobile Version of Blogger URL ]
You also need to add the mobile version of the old URL to the custom redirect. add ?m=1 after the old post URL to get the mobile version.
eg: http://technoxide.blogspot.com/2012/07/redirect-blogger-post.html?m=1
That's it ! Now navigate to your posts old URL it will automatically redirects to your posts new URL.

ReplyDeleteExample:
http://fixarfarsan.se/2012/09/detta-ar-den-snyggaste-audi-a4-avanten.html
There is a redirected link: fixarfarsan.se/audi that works fine on a computer but when read via mobile template ?m=1 is added after the link and it's not redirected...

Hi, Great post. I am new to blogging. My blog is mustknowquotes.blogspot.com. I have custom redirect for example "success" works fine on laptop. But it doesn't work on android. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm new to blogging. I write about different topics and would like my posts to be redirected to different tabs at the top of my blog. I've redirected one post to a specific tab, but how to I make all my posts of a certain topic go under that tab? For instance fitness. I want all my fitness topics to be seen in chronological order under the fitness tab.
Thanks,Vanessa
@Vanessa Dugandzic
ReplyDeleteAdd Tag Name....If you add Fitness as the tag name for posts related to fitness...you can view only fitness by clicking the fitness label
Quick question: if I change my blog URL but want all my old posts to change the blog URL to the new URL, do I need to redirect ALL of the posts?? Thanks! :)
ReplyDelete@Ashley @ The Sweet Life
ReplyDeleteDid you mean to change your blog address to a new one ? If it is a custom domain (www.example.com) ..then you don't need to redirect the posts, Blogger will automatically redirect all the posts to your new domain..If you want help to add custom domain just comment here.
